Harvest Roundup 2016

April 2016

This season had its challenges early on with cold weather and strong winds in the spring, but fantastic weather through flowering gave us a great fruit set.  Extremely dry conditions followed producing clean fruit with excellent concentration.   Harvest was pretty relaxed with no weather pressures for us.

Our fruit is all hand harvested - we had two very international teams this year.  Pickers from all over globe - France, Germany, The Czech Republic, Argentina, and of course our regular Vanuatuans.  There was even the odd kiwi amongst them all!

Why do we hand harvest?  It ensures us the best possible quality fruit as the hand harvesters are able to be selective in their harvesting and discard any bunches if showing damage.  It also gives further options in the winery for whole bunch components in the ferment.  Because the bunches are still intact there is no requirement for added sulphur to protect the fruit en-route to the winery.

Thanks to all the crew for your hard work!!  It's very much appreciated by us.
Hope Sue's baking was up to scratch!!
